Semester Abroad - United Kingdom (University of Bristol)

During the last semester, I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad studying in the University of Bristol. Being an aspiring quantum researcher, the UK particularly appealed to me as it was the first European nation with a National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP), which was implemented in 2014.

Bristol, being among the top 5 UK universities for research (REF 2021) and being a partner university of the TUM, offered unique opportunities as host school and for making my time abroad as valuable as possible. During my studies in Bristol I was able to complement my already very broad spectrum of selectable courses at my two home universities Technical University of Munich and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München with courses abroad and at the same time experience the prospering research landscape of the UK.

However, it was not only on a professional level that my time abroad was a definite highlight in my academic career, but also on a personal level, as I was able to expand my network on an international level, sharpen my intercultural competencies and authentically experience British culture.

I am very grateful that the TUM has supported my intentions via the TUMexchange program by reimbursing my tuition fee at Bristol University. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to the TUMexchange team, especially to Andreas Mayer, who is responsible for study projects in the UK and to Dr. Maria Eckholt as my primary contact person during the preparation phase of my stay.

Additionally, the company Rohde & Schwarz has generously granted me an international scholarship of 2000 € as a one-time payment. I feel honored for receiving this valuable support and especially for being granted access to the Rohde alumni community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of the Rohde Foundation and especially to Simone Kunz as my contact person during the selection process for helping to transform my plans into reality.

In summary, the interplay of academic, personal, cultural and social experiences greatly enriched me as a person and made my stay abroad an experience that will always be remembered as a highlight of my academic journey.
