A few weeks ago, I took part in the Qiskit Global Summer School 2023 – an intensive workshop organised by IBM Quantum. Thanks to the online lectures, whose playbacks are also available afterwards, I was able to organise my participation in a very modular way. This made it possible for me to attend the Summer School alongside my (full-time) work in my research group in Prof. Dr. Lauriane Chomaz's dysprosium lab.
In addition to 14 inspiring talks, which ranged from the foundations of quantum computing to complex quantum networks and the implementation of quantum noise, the topics learned were directly applied in practice in the form of 5 lab courses. The lab exercises were carried out in Python and subsequently assessed. I was awarded the Badge of Quantum Excellence for my performance in the lab exercises.
I was also able to take a lot away from the Qiskit Global Summer School outside of my studies. A total of 6000 students from various countries worldwide registered to participate. A Discord server provided the space for an internal exchange between the participants. This enabled me to meet many inspiring participants and to broaden my horizons also on a cultural level.
Finally, I would like to thank the entire Qiskit Global Summer School team for the organisation, the extremely valuable knowledge input, and the opportunity for international networking. The Qiskit Global Summer School was a unique experience from which I will benefit both professionally and privately.
