jDPG Berufsvorbereitungsseminar Jena

After more than half a year of intensive planning and preparation, the Career Preparation Seminar (BVS) Jena of the young German Physical Society (jDPG) took place from 30.06. to 02.07.2023. These seminars are an important pillar of the jDPG's career preparation programme, as they give physicists who are about to complete their master's degree or PhD valuable insights into a wide range of professions. In the form of short lectures, physicists from a broad range of fields talk about their career paths and thus show many professional perspectives.

This year we were once again able to welcome six successful physicists as speakers, who gave us an insight into their impressive careers and current activities. From optics and quantum technologies to software development and politics, a broad spectrum of possible career paths was covered, which inspired the participants and showed them new career perspectives.

The BVS programme was rounded off by a laboratory tour. The participants were given an insight into three companies at the Jena Technology and Innovation Park. In addition, there was enough time to exchange and network with each other through a concluding panel discussion and joint dinners.

Personally, I am at the end of my Bachelor's degree and aim to specialise further in the field of my Bachelor's thesis, namely experimental quantum physics, in my Master's degree. Even though my career start is still a long way off, I was able to personally benefit a lot from the event, both professionally and privately, which was enhanced not only by the official programme but also by the exchange with other participants.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my entire planning team for their intensive and productive cooperation. The BVS Jena was the first large attendance event that I was able to organise as the federal board member of the jDPG and I am pleased to announce that it will not be the last: The planning for the next BVS has already started two months ago!
